The Alamo
In
late February 1836 less than 200 Texans manned an old mission we know
as the Alamo. A 13 day seige began. This small group of men led by William
B. Travis and Jim Bowie were to face over 4000 Mexican troops in a battle
they knew they would lose so that a war could be won. By the morning of
March 6th, all of the Texans would be dead along with 600 Mexicans.
After 13 days of bombardment, the Mexican army made their
final attack. The battle lasted only an hour but made a great impact on
American history. With great loses, the Mexican army went on to lose the
Battle of San Jacinto which gave Texas it's freedom.
